Moving Moments
Paint Supplies Checklist
When we first moved into our current home all the bedroom walls were pink, the living and dining rooms were a sickly yellow and exterior was a dirty dirty white.
We hired a colour consultant (not something we would normally do but we got a good discount if we used her preferred paint supplier – which was great!)
Our consultant, Amy, spent over two hours with us, walking through the home talking colours, moods, themes etc. It was great! Just before she left she asked me what colours I was thinking about initially. I laughed and said “I don’t know Beige, I guess”.
So our house is beige inside and out with a white trim. Too funny!

We decided to do all the painting ourselves (with A LOT of help from my power house in-laws).
I learned so much about preparing to paint so I made this Paint Supplies Checklist to save you multiple trips to the hardware store.
As a side note we borrowed a number of items like drop cloths, ladders etc. so we didn’t need to buy everything on the lists.
My three biggest take-aways from painting a four bedroom, two bathroom home inside and out:
- Invest in good quality paint brushes – there is nothing worse than bristles breaking off and then having to pick them out of the wet paint,
- Have a great play list, audiobook or podcast at the ready – painting is really calming and rewarding, and
- Take the time to clean your brushes, rolls etc. It really does make a difference the next time you use them.
As a bonus I also include a Paint Tracker which I keep in Goodnotes. This was super helpful when the paint company we used was taken over and all the colour names and codes changed. The new company was able to look up the colour and match the mix. Phew!
